Interns Studying Marriage and Family Therapy
Cyndy Brougher, Intern
Cyndy, a Marriage and Family Therapy intern, holds a bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in child development from ASU and Ashford University. With a background in ABA therapy, marketing, and ballroom instruction, she brings empathy and optimism to her practice. Cyndy utilizes Narrative and Solution-Focused Therapy and is pursuing certifications in The Gottman Method and sex therapy. She enjoys yoga, painting, and learning about TCM and Feng Shui.
Tanya Alkhaliq, M.S. (Candidate), LMFTA (Pending)
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (Candidate) | Author | Professor | Nonprofit Founder
Tanya A. Alkhaliq is a therapist-in-training who has successfully passed the National MFT Exam and is currently pursuing licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate (LMFTA) in North Carolina. She specializes in culturally responsive, trauma-informed therapy with a focus on Black and LGBTQIA+ clients, integrating Narrative, Experiential, and African-centered approaches.
Tanya is the founder of Inner Healing Therapeutic Services, a nonprofit that addresses the intersections of Blackness, religion, sexuality, and mental health. She serves as President and Professor at Lighthouse Theological Institute and Seminary, and is the author of the forthcoming book Reimagining Women in the Bible (October 2025). She plans to begin her Ph.D. in African American Studies at Emory University in Fall 2026.
Based in Greensboro, NC, Tanya is passionate about creating therapeutic and spiritual spaces where people can reclaim their truth, their healing, and their power.
Interns Studying Mental Health Counseling
Heather Harrison, Intern
Heather is an LCMHC Intern, pursuing her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a background in healthcare administration, Heather’s passion lies in helping others. She strives to empower clients to embrace self-acceptance, create positive change, and improve their mental health. Heather is dedicated to fostering growth and healing through understanding, compassion, and unconditional support.
Joe Hale, Intern
Joe Hale, a counseling intern from eastern North Carolina, is pursuing a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University. He holds a Philosophy degree with a Psychology minor from East Carolina University and brings diverse experience from accounting, legal, medical, and golf industries. Joe uses an existential approach, integrating psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies to help clients build trust, explore life with courage, and achieve lasting change.
Ethan Marsh, Intern
Ethan is a counseling intern earning his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Mount Olive. With a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from UNCW, he takes a person-centered approach, integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to support clients’ unique needs. Ethan offers a faith-integrated perspective when desired and is passionate about helping clients navigate emotions, relationships, identity, and everyday challenges.
