Mark Smith, Health and Wellness Coach
Duke-Trained Health & Wellness Coach | Heart Health Advocate | Behavior Change Specialist
Hi, I’m Mark Smith—a Duke-trained Health and Wellness Coach with a deep passion for helping people take back control of their health, especially those facing heart health or metabolic challenges like high blood pressure, diabetes, or weight concerns.
I haven’t always prioritized my own health, so I understand how overwhelming it can feel to make lasting lifestyle changes. My own journey—from a blue-collar upbringing to earning my degree at 40, to serving nearly a decade as a North Carolina magistrate—has shaped how I coach today. I know the value of meeting people where they are, listening without judgment, and offering clear, compassionate support.
After years of being in a profession that only responded after an unfortunate event happened, I felt called to shift my focus from reactive to proactive. Instead of responding after the unfortunate events, I moved towards helping people proactively improve their quality of life. That path led me to Duke’s integrative health coaching program, where I trained in evidence-based strategies for sustainable behavior change.
Today, I partner with individuals who are ready to take practical, doable steps toward better health—whether that means moving more, eating more mindfully, managing stress, or navigating a new diagnosis. I also serve as a referral partner for healthcare, fitness, and wellness professionals who want their clients and patients better supported between visits—helping to turn medical advice into real-life habits.
I’m based in New Bern, NC, and offer both virtual and in-person coaching through a trusted partnership with Olive Tree Family Counseling.
If you're ready to build something stronger—one small, intentional step at a time—I’d love to walk alongside you.
